This Friday I’m going to link up with My New Favorite Outfit and the Brandied Pair for their recently founded Friday Style Swap. The point is to buddy up with a blogger and each swap a look of the other’s. Since I don’t post outfits all the time, I’m using the second option: picking a blogger’s style that I love and transforming it for me.
Last week, I was sick and didn’t get to swap a style. In a way, I’m glad because I picked The Steele Maiden’s look from this past Monday, which she calls “Love on Top.” It was a perfect outfit for me to start with, and it just didn’t exist last Friday when I would’ve posted. When I saw the polka dotted jeans, a light bulb went off and I made note– THAT’S how you wear polka dotted jeans!
There were some elements I loved about her outfit. I kept trying to pair my polka dot jeans with a plain gray top because the dots looked gray to me. Also I didn’t think anything “graphic” would work with the print. I was floored with how well they worked with a white graphic tee! The stripes really added another dimension to me and knew that the stripes would be essential to trying to pull this off. This is what I came up with:
 |
Specs: Ray Ban, Blazer: J.Crew Maritime knit, Denim top: Merona, Tee: J.Crew kiss tee Necklace: J.Crew Crystal Rectangle, Jeans: Merona, Boots: MRKT (old) |
I think I was more excited about how pretty this looked against the snow. If I hadn’t been so eager to play in it, I might have taken more pictures or done more outfits, but this was surprisingly comfortable. The multiple layers were perfect for the weather too. Wearing this many layers probably is not something I would do on a daily basis since I am hot-natured, but I loved the look. I missed the burgundy pop of color she displayed unfortunately. Seeing the pictures makes me wish I had taller black boots. The knee high boots are the star of The Steele Maiden’s outfit, but those heels are impractical for me. Having taller boots would’ve made my legs look slimmer. Learn something new every day! That is something I need to think about in the future when I pick out boots, since I’m very much a pear shape. My favorite part (besides the jeans) is how the denim and navy/cream stripes look together. That will definitely be repeated into another outfit.
Overall, I think translating her style works for me. It’s also a little out of my box and keeps me from ending up looking plain every day. So how did I do? What could I have done better?
Also… if you follow the Blog via Facebook, you’ve already seen this, but I’m posting it here too because I just can’t get enough. He’s going to hate that he made the blog, but I love my husband. After he helped me with outfit pictures, we rode around and tossed up some snow! Nothing better than a Hayes Day Snow Day.
