Style Day: Utility Vest Remixed

One of my favorite pieces from last month was a cargo utility vest that I picked up from American Eagle. I have not been in there in years probably, but was shopping with my sister and found a few racer back tanks I really liked for vacation as well as this vest. I’ve already worn it several times. It works with pretty much any top, skirts, dresses, shorts, leggings… you name it, it looks good over it.

I wanted to share the versatility of this piece in a remix post. This is the most recent combo the vest went into:
Eyelet top: J.Crew (similar) Tank: J.Crew Necklace: J.Crew (similar) Skirt: GAP (similar) Shoes: DV by Dolce Vita (similar)

I’ve already worn this vest in the maxi dress combo, but I can’t wait to wear it with the shorts combo this weekend. I used items that I already had in my closet to build these sets so that I know I can remix it without buying anything else since my goal is a no shop summer.
Top: Merona Tote: Herschel Satchel Co. Shoes: Xhilaration Shorts: J.Crew
Dress: J.Crew Necklace: J.Crew Shoes: Seychelles

Want one? Here are a few I found that are similar to mine, but if you have an American Eagle around, I’d check it out since I paid so little for mine and have really gotten some wear out of it! How would you wear a cargo vest?

  6. Thank you Lydia! I bought one from Marshalls to wear with the vest then I came home and found that I already had a similar one. Haha! So I eagerly put it together and loved it. I loved your cargo jacket post too. I feel like you can wear both of them in the same situations.

  7. Thanks Corey! I had no idea you were floating around the internets and not just IG. 😀

  8. Seriously! They are amazingly versatile. I was looking at your post with you wearing it in New York and I was like, "That's a perfect place for a utility vest!" I've worn it with my aerie high waisted leggings several times. It's my new favorite piece.

  9. Which I find so strange to believe because you come up with so many pretty things! The eyelet shirt is choice. I highly recommend it if you come across one on ebay or poshmark.

  15. Thanks Cara! I was super surprised to find it at AE too and surprised about the quality. Top notch.

  16. Thanks Jackie! I absolutely LOVE your blog!
And I know exactly what you mean! I can get on board with a trendy piece when it's this functional.

  17. In case you can't tell, I highly recommend one. Before my utility vest, I didn't really see the need for any vest at all, but I love it and wear it all the time. I do get quite a few "when's the hunt?" comments, but that's just because I live in the woods. 😉

  18. I'm so glad that utility vests are still a thing…I can't stop wearing mine and don't want to stop yet! I really like the outfit you wore with the striped skirt + graphic tee. The vest makes it look so perfectly casual and "finished" 🙂

  19. Haha! Even if they weren't a thing I would definitely keep wearing it. It's so functional and it's a lightweight layer. I love lightweight layers for the summer because I'm so hot natured. Summer is not my friend.
