Style Day: Classic Navy Blazer Remixed

Morning y’all! Welcome to my least favorite days: a Monday after a 3 day weekend. I enjoyed my time off immensely. I wore this outfit last Thursday to work. You saw a sneak peek in my last post. Once again, I’m going to start the week out by talking about the end of a week. Summer always makes the weeks go by quicker!

necklace:: J.Crew (similar) tank:: J.Crew blazer:: J.Crew–watch for popbacks (similar) skirt:: Target (similar) sandals:: MIA

I just can’t help myself. I’m going to talk about this blazer again. I don’t own an “updated” Schoolboy blazer, but I can’t help but think it’s just not quite as good as the classic schoolboy. BUT like I said, I haven’t tried the new one, so I can’t confidently say that. What I can say with confidence is that I love this jacket. I wasn’t wearing it much in the pictures because it was already 90° at 8:30 AM, but I have been carrying this blazer with me to work almost every day. Navy is one of those colors that my mom drilled into me as being a professional color. While my office doesn’t require business wear every day (read: as long as I’m not in pajamas and flip flops I’m fine), I’m still seen by patients and while I’m interviewing people (yes, still. know how to pick references people…) I want to show them that though what’s on the outside isn’t what you should be judged by, it should definitely help tell the story of who you are. A patient’s children told me Thursday that I looked like a city girl. I laughed pretty hard at that one. I told them that I spent 18 years in the city but dressing nicely is something that you can do anywhere.

OK, that’s my spill about dressing nicely. Now for a bit about this Monday’s remix. These outfits are pretty much identical. Even both bottoms are patterned. All I did was wear a skirt instead of jeans/pants. The tops aren’t exactly the same, though both the prima jersey pocket tank. I wore the white one with the patterned skirt and the heather gray one with the patterned pants. If a formula works, reuse it! Blazer+tank+patterned bottoms+sandals works pretty well for summer at the office.
One more thing! In addition to hosting a spray tan giveaway through Friday, I’m also participating in a giveaway with The Modern Austen and other awesome bloggers sharing the chance to win our best beach bag essentials!

  1. I think blazers are essential for anyone that works in an office during the summer! They are easy to throw over a tank/cami/tee to survive the indoor ac (and look professional) – yet you can quickly take it off when you step outside into the heat. You nailed this look!

  2. Love the blazer! I love navy, but I don't have much of it in my closet. That has got to change! I love that you were told you look like a "city girl!"

  3. Haha! I know! The doc I work for sees a lot of poverty level people, so often times I get told I look fancy or something like that. Navy is my black! I have so little black now.

  4. Thank you Kim! I appreciate your comment! That is exactly what I've been doing. It works so well for inside the office, I got another structured one. I have two knit type blazers, but I don't feel like they're quite nice enough some days.

  5. Thank you Lydia. That blazer has been one of the best purchases of my entire life. The fit is fantastic. I don't know why I didn't invest in one sooner!

  6. I love your skirt!!! And you do look professional. I remember back when I was purchasing suits/clothing for interviewing for jobs as I was graduating from college in accounting and I was told to get navy!! That was 25 years ago and it still works because your navy blazer looks very professional.

  7. Thanks Christy! And thank you for your sweet comments on my posts. My mom is in accounting too! She has to wear business clothes all the time. I'm so thankful I can be business casual at my office.

  8. I love this look. You're so right when I lived in the suburbs I always had people ask me why Im dressed so fancy! Now that I live in a city I never get that but that doesn't mean you can't dress nice wherever you go! I totally get you paring it with patterns in both, since its a plain blazer.

  9. Ah! I have had a lot of trouble styling my navy blazer, for absolutely no good reason at all. I haven't, however, tried wearing it with my printed pants yet! Perhaps I'll need to give it a shot, since the look is so fantastic on you!! šŸ™‚
